An evening in Varanasi…
I, with my 5 colleagues, stayed at DLW officer's rest house at bhullanpur, varanasi. As we were under training, hence our lodging was done by Indian Railways. The room fare for non trainees is also reasonable, only 100 INR per bed per day and if you are railway employee then you can book by FAX to Principal of Technical Training Centre, DLW, Varanasi.
We had yummy cornflakes with cow milk. After that, we went for training in diesel electric loco shed. There was a lot of things to observe and a lot of things to learn and there was a great experience.
At 2 o'clock in the afternoon something happened, 6 trainees lost their motions suddenly. And the in-charge senior section engineer had to relieve them for half day rest. Actually, the travelmania between them had awaken and they made the excuse, because they had to visit GANGA AARTI at Dashashwamedh Ghat in Ganga's bank. Who were these guys... Yes, your guess is true. These 6 guys were my colleagues including me... hahaha.
What to visit at Ganga's Bank
And then we went to ghat. What a pleasant, holistic glimpse was there ! The feeling was tremendous, many devotees were having bath, many were fasting, many were praying, many were watching the whole fascinating scenario of the Ganga Aarti and the tourists like me were observing the whole fantasy. I took the doobki in the holy river. It is believed that after having doobki, the sins are washed away in the river. We had a nice photo session there, many rituals clicks, many holistics captures and candid stills.
Then we had a nice boating and the scene was fascinating; while watching the sun set, we were singing shining in the setting Sun... like pearl upon the ocean… I will not say the moments were memorable because they were. No one among us can forget these good times. Then suddenly we heard the announcement of the panda ji maharaj who were continuously saying to settle down to all devotees and to participate in Ganga Aarti. The crowd was extremely desperate to had a single view of the priests who were worshipping the holy river. The astounding sound of hand bell and the melodious tone of holy mantras were purifying our soul; it seems we, with the whole crowd, were hypnotized by that music. Whole crowd was chanting the mantras together in a single tone and everyone was in submission in the feet of holy River.
What NOT to eat near Ganga ghat
After completion of Ganga Aarti we decided to come back. While returning, we had benaras thandai, literally it was tasteless and we all were watching face of each other in a very disappointment manner. We were searching for the one amongst us who had suggested the idea of having that lassi… but that was a part of joke. It was dark at that time and we had to find a dinner place which should be cheaper and of better quality. But cheap and quality are antonym of each other, you have to compromise one over another. And then again shit happened, we found a place and ordered dinner… OMG again tasteless food with ruthless service. We all had same opinion about the fooding of varanasi; but that was the blessing of mother river… thinking that and somehow swallowed the food.
It was darker then, and we came back to our shelter.
To be continued...
